On the Road Again - DAY 31

Day 31: The Upside-Down Kingdom

Read: Luke 14:1-4

In Luke 14, Jesus is invited to eat at the house of a prominent Pharisee on the Sabbath. The Pharisees are closely watching Him, expecting Him to break their rules. Jesus, aware of their scrutiny, heals a man with dropsy and asks, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath or not?” His actions and questions highlight the upside-down nature of God’s kingdom, where compassion trumps legalism. Again he reminds us that Sabbath is a blessing not a burden.

But it’s shocking that Jesus is here at all! He models a patient presence by continuing to reach out to his critics.

REFLECT
What does it mean to be “patiently present” with someone? Who has done this for you? Who is it hard for you to be patiently present with?

PRAY
Lord, help me to embody humility and compassion. Teach me to prioritize love over legalism and to follow the principles of Your kingdom. Amen.
