DAY 8 - Our Enemies

Colossians 3:1-5
 
Because Jesus is alive and in charge, we have new power. We have power to overcome temptation and sin, to live a new life. The apostle Paul says, “You have been raised with Christ.” But he also says, “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature.” Our spiritual struggle isn’t over yet.

Scripture helps us to identify three spiritual enemies. First is the world. The world is the corrupt system in human society that influences us toward what is evil. Second is the flesh, the self-centered impulse inside us all. Paul here calls it “your earthly nature.” The final enemy is the devil, unseen spiritual beings that oppose God’s work.

When we trust the risen Jesus, he gives us his Holy Spirit who empowers us to overcome all of these enemies! We’re free to love God and neighbor the way God intended.

Lord, thank you for power to overcome my enemies. Fill me again today and help me to overcome temptation. Amen.
