DAY 6: The Heart of Neighboring

Luke 10:25-28
In the Gospel of Luke, we encounter a scholar of the law testing Jesus, asking, "How do I inherit eternal life?" Jesus responds by asking what the Law says, and the scholar correctly summarizes it: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind, and love your neighbor as yourself." Jesus affirms this answer, highlighting that the heart of following God is love—love for Him and love for our neighbors.

This passage challenges us to consider the simplicity and profundity of these commands. It’s not about rituals or complicated doctrines; it’s about genuine love. The scholar’s attempt to justify himself by asking, "Who is my neighbor?" reflects our own tendencies to complicate what is simple and straightforward.
