JAMES DAY 36 - Worth the Wait?

DAY 36
Worth the Wait?
2 Peter 3:9

Have you ever asked yourself, “Is this really worth the wait?”

Our family took our first-ever trip to Disney World back in 2019. If you go to a popular theme park, get ready to wait! One day in particular, we planned ahead and made reservations for breakfast and lunch. But we got delayed on a ride and missed our lunch reservation by 15 minutes. They had no room at lunch, so we scoured the restaurant list for open reservations. We finally found one for dinner at 8 or 9pm. We took it.

By dinner time, we were exhausted and hungry! I was impatient and ready to get the day over with. But once we were seated and served, all of us said, “This is some of the best food I’ve ever had!” We wouldn’t recommend dinner that ends at 11pm, but we agreed: it was worth the wait!

Patience evaporates the moment we decide that whatever is holding us back from what we what simply cannot be worth the wait! Think about the last time you lost your patience. Did you enjoy losing your cool? Of course not! We all get impatient - but nobody likes being impatient.

James can help. Remember, he wants to help us have faith that works, that does good and makes a difference. This week we’ll read James 5:7-11. Decide today: “I’m sick of losing patience and I’m determined to grow my patience.”

REFLECT
Think about a recent experience when you lost your patience. How were you feeling? What were you thinking? What would you change?

PRAY
Lord, your Word says that you are patient. I admit, I lose my patience more than I should. I open my heart to you this week. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, your Spirit of patience. Amen.
