The Disciple's Path DEVO - Day 17

Day 17: Serving with Purpose

Read
Romans 16:1-2

As Paul wraps up his letter to the Romans, he acknowledges specific people by name, highlighting the impact they’ve had in the ministry. He starts with Phoebe, whom he commends as a “servant of the church” and a “benefactor of many people.” Paul doesn’t list these names for fame but to show how each person’s contribution has brought value to the mission. Serving isn’t about recognition but about fulfilling God’s purpose for us.

When we serve with a sense of purpose, knowing that our work furthers God’s kingdom, we discover a deeper motivation than personal gain. Like Phoebe, we’re called to serve faithfully and support others in a way that honors God. Recognizing God’s purpose behind our work inspires us to continue serving, even when it’s difficult.

Reflect:
In what ways has God given you a specific purpose in serving? How can you focus on His mission over personal recognition?

Pray:
God, give me a heart that serves with purpose. Help me stay focused on Your mission and bring glory to You through my service. Amen.
