Day 30: Looking in the Mirror

Read Matthew 7:1-5

We should critique ourselves far more than we criticize others. That’s Jesus’ point when he says, “Do not judge.” He doesn’t mean we should avoid deciding if something is right or wrong. He also doesn’t mean we shouldn’t correct people. If we read the full quotation in Matthew 7, it’s obvious he’s telling us to be careful how we criticize others.

Reflect on the following four questions. You may even want to write your answers. They can help you get some perspective on yourself.

1. How much “bad news” do you consume? 
2. How much do you critique yourself vs. criticizing others? 
3. What evidence shows a serious interest in my own spiritual life?
4. Do you trust Jesus alone to save and lead you?

Jesus, help me to stay connected to You. Teach me to rely on Your strength and guidance to live a fruitful life. Amen.
