Jesus asks his disciples to prepare the place, and make all the preparations for the Passover meal. He even tells them just exactly how to go about it and what would happen as they encountered each part of the preparation. And as they gathered for the meal, Jesus takes the bread and wine lifting it, giving thanks, and giving it to his disciples. We experience this every week in the Lord’s supper. He knows each one and even the one who will betray him. Yet, Jesus eats with them. The disciples begin to argue about who will be the greatest in the kingdom. Jesus offers these words, the greatest among you should be like the youngest, and the one who rules like the one who serves. 27 For who is greater, the one who is at the table or the one who serves? Is it not the one who is at the table? But I am among you as one who serves.

It takes us to “If you want to be great in God’s kingdom you must be servant of all.” Didn’t Jesus show us by his life what it means, “I did not come to be served but to serve and be a ransom for many.” There is a command and a commission. Jesus would give it all. Will we?
